Immersive Storytelling Powers Sustainability at Costa Rica’s Children’s Museum
The Children’s Museum in San José, Costa Rica, has unveiled its newest interactive space, Ciudad Sostenible (“Sustainable City”), designed to inspire the next generation to think critically about environmental challenges. Developed with Alpha Channel Productions, a creative studio based in Costa Rica and Colombia, the project was created for the initiative Urban Green Economy Transition Project (TEVU), led by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Organization for Tropical Studies (OET), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Children’s Museum. This experience uses immersive storytelling and cutting-edge design to help young visitors understand how everyday choices impact the planet.
More than just an exhibition, Ciudad Sostenible invites children and families to engage with topics like clean energy, recycling, and urban innovation through play and exploration. The initiative highlights how experiential learning can make sustainability more relatable and actionable, particularly in a region where climate resilience is a growing priority.
By blending entertainment with education, this project delivers long-term social ROI: raising awareness, encouraging behavioral change, and empowering young citizens to become active participants in building a greener future. For Alpha Channel Productions, this marks another milestone in leveraging immersive media to transform public spaces and cultural institutions across Latin America.
